EQ/Communication Workshops

Increase your team’s capacity for empathy, vulnerability, and candor

Unlock your team’s individual and collective potential.

These are the essential capacities to install candor culture in your company. Each of these communication skills is a leverage point, and through making small changes we can achieve results quickly.

All workshops are 90-minutes, up to 100 participants, and cost $1,500 USD. We recommend you do each workshop in order and rotate them with Social Connection Games.

1. Revealing Withholds: Create more open and honest communication

Learn a skill for creating more open and honest communication in your relationships.

“Withholds” are any facts, thoughts (beliefs, assumptions, opinions, and judgements), or feelings that you are aware of and have not shared with someone, which impacts the quality of connection, personal growth, or shareholder value.

Teams that reveal withholds manage social friction that gets in the way of achieving extraordinary levels of innovation, productivity, and social connection.

  • Notice withholds that you have with current relationships (colleagues, friends, family, etc).

  • Skillfully reveal withholds in a way that is compassionate and constructive.

  • Create more social connection and intimacy.

  • Invite others to speak more truthfully to you.

  • Add “withhold” to your vocabulary.

  • Learn how to transform a Raw Withhold into a Skilled Withhold.

  • Understand the consequences of withholding.

  • Create noble intentions/practices as a team.

  • Learn about withhold culture, psychological safety, and candor culture.

  • Learn how to reveal your first withhold.

  • Learn a tool for unsilencing crickets in meetings to speak what is true for them.

2. Empathetic Listening: Listen with presence and without advice giving

Listening is a skill that we can continue to hone throughout our whole life. It's essential to train this capacity because a lack of listening stifles creativity and can create conflicts in the workplace. Skillful listening can even draw out innovative solutions from others.

  • Have others feel understood and seen by you.

  • Synthesis the essence of what someone is feeling and wanting.

  • Create a sense of safety for others to open up more.

  • Give others easy steps to listen empathetically.

  • Improve fundamental and advanced skills in giving and receiving empathy.

  • Understanding the role of advice giving.

  • The power of consent to improve communication.

  • How to Listen in several layers at once.

3. Owning Your Experience: End drama and start taking responsibility

A lack of linguistic and energetic ownership is the fastest way to create fear and distrust on teams. Often these subtle dynamics are at play in the workplace and we are overriding them.

The entire game changes when you choose to believe that you create your own experience, and that someone or something is not doing it to you. The skill to think and communicate in this way is rare since most people were taught the opposite growing up.

The CEO of Microsoft, Satya Nadella, handed out copies of Non-Violent Communication at his first executive meeting. This book teaches the art of owning your experience and the core concepts will be practiced in this session.

  • End drama and blame.

  • Speak unarguably.

  • Ask for what you want.

  • Navigate tough conversations.

  • Stop taking responsibility for other’s thoughts and feelings.

  • Start taking full responsibility for your thoughts and feelings.

4. Dignity and Humility: Communicating with confidence and consideration

Understanding polarity is a key to empowered communication. In this workshop we study the difference between either / or thinking vs both / and thinking. Their effects on others are distinctly different and this subtle shift can make worlds of difference.

  • Learn to stay receptive, even when you have a strong opinion

  • Be able to weave other’s ideas into yours in a way that feels collaborative

  • Become aware of unhelpful patterns that hold us all back

  • Learn to balance decisiveness and innovation on a team

5. Setting Context

Whatever our role in the workplace, taking leadership in our communication means that our work is more efficient, and we are able to bring more clarity to our projects. When a whole team understands this powerful communication tool, there is a cumulative benefit.

  • Learn about different layers of context which are affecting every situation

  • Learn exactly how to take responsibility for your emotional state and transform it into productivity

  • Empowerment through practicing self-leadership

  • Create win-win experiences in everyday work

  • Maximize a culture of productivity while honoring relationship and emotions
